We were sitting at the Medical Center's Expecting Parents Fair yesterday waiting on our hospital tour when I surprised Chad. I asked him if he had any idea what I was doing a year ago at that moment. Of course he looked at me like I was crazy and said no. I told him I didn't know exactly either but I did know that I was either grabbing lunch with Vanessa or on my way home to catch a quick nap. And again I got the crazy-girl look and a half interested "so....????"
Then I told him what I was doing.
When I got home I set 3 alarms, called his brother to make sure he was still planning on being at our apartment by 7:30. I remember dozing off and being so stinking happy. Then waking up and getting ready and feeling like I might quite possibly squeal. And for those of you who don't know me, I do not squeal!
I got ready, even put on makeup and changed my clothes a couple different times. Then Cam showed up and off we went. We grabbed something to eat because we both knew we'd get hungry in the next several hours. Afterall, 3:30 am was a long way away. We were on the road around 8. Had a very uneventful and deerless trip to Ft. Campbell. Then started our hunt for the parking lot we were supposed to be parked in.... All the while both of us are getting more and more excited, thus I was acting more and more like a school girl. lol
We had gotten there so early people weren't out directing traffic and the signs weren't turned on yet. So... we were a little lost, but figured it out.
We parked then stood in the parking lot for what seemed like FOREVER.
Then we got on school buses.... and sat FOREVER.
Then the buses took us to the hangar. Where we sat FOREVER. lol Cam got annoyed. Sherry, Nanny and I were just happy. I took a crap load of pictures while waiting.
Then we all went outside to wait for the plane. an waited FOREVER. lol
Eventually it came... only after several times of people yelling "THERE IT IS!" But Cam def called it. Then one by one our soldiers started coming off the plane.
| Yeah... I was SUPER excited and caffeinated LOL |
I know there was a lot of speech giving and crap but... I don't remember it... I just remember when he let us all loose to try and find each other. It was awful and wonderful all at the same time. LOL Then we found each other and it was well worth it all!
Then... he went back... The family left and I stayed with the other wives and waited. and waited. and waited. Then FINALLY we got to head home. His plane landed at 3:30am and we were home around 10:30am. It was a long wait. But well worth it.
Crazy how you remember things like that.
Looking back it's hard to believe that was all only a year ago. It honestly seems so much longer than that. And it's incredibly hard to believe that it was 2 years ago that I was sending him off. In the rain. How original. haha.
God has brought us through this last year. This, I am sure of. It was a long and wild ride of a year. One that I am honestly glad is behind us. If there's one thing we can both agree on it is that we don't want to repeat it, and are glad we faced it and made it together.
So, thank you. Thank you to all of you who helped us make it through with your thoughts, prayers, and support. For those of you who are reading this you know how hard this past year was for us as well as how rewarding it was. You were there for it all and we thank you.
