takin it slow

Yesterday started out like any other Saturday... I struggled with trying to sleep in, but the girls weren't having it. So... Got up and went out to Clint's house for a bit. Nothing says fun like watching other people play video games, right?  But, they are great people and the closest things I have to true friends at this point in my life that I can see whenever I want. But that's another story for another post.  When I decided to head out that afternoon around 3 I was given a not so subtle message. Slow down.  How'd I receive this message from my God?  A big piece of rusted aluminum sticking out of my left rear tire's sidewall... No joke.

I have been rocking the doughnut for the last 24 hrs and it's amazing how much you notice when you are only able to drive at max 35 mph. There are houses I don't recall noticing before. Gives you time to think about the songs playing on your radio and notice the people flying past you.

Makes you realize it only takes you a few minutes longer to get somewhere when you drive the speed limit (or well below it). That it's ok to take your time. Why are we in such a hurry anyway?  It's almost like a lifestyle change. No longer am I concerned with getting somewhere as soon as possible, but I'm enjoying the actual trip. Noticing new businesses, noticing closed businesses, yard sales, all kinds of things. Things we tend to block out when we're speeding thru town just watching traffic to make sure we don't rear-end anyone. Hopefully I still appreciate it after I get my new set of tires tomorrow. (they were going to need replacing in a couple of months anyway as they've almost reached the end of their expected life)

Something so simple and aggravating as a flat tire can change your prospective and life if you let it. Just like spilled drinks and warnings given in jest.... :)
